Signings Signal more choice from Sanmar
Customer demand has again prompted Sanmar, Türkiye’s trail-blazing tug builder, to sign more deals with the world’s acknowledged leading tug design team.
At the recent Tugnology conference and exhibition held in London, senior officials of two of the leading participants, Robert Allan Ltd of Vancouver, Canada, and Sanmar Marine of Tuzla, Türkiye, ceremonially put pen to paper. The two deals further extends Sanmar’s already impressive portfolio of ASD tug designs.
The impetus behind one of the new designs was the decision by the Turkish Authorities to require more maneuverability in the tugs at its disposal at many of the country’s small ports where the 30-tonne bollard pull, 18m twin-screw Sanmar Class model has hitherto remained supreme, with more than 35 of this type delivered so far. A special “Sanmar Exclusive” similar-sized version but with azimuthing stern drive (ASD) propulsion is being drawn up, designated the RAscal 1800SX, to provide a very compact and agile tug with more than enough power to meet the requirements.
The second vessel in the design deal between designer and builder is the requirement from established customer, Bukser og Berging in Norway for a versatile and extremely maneuverable line-handling boat. The decision was soon made to opt for the Robert Allan Ltd 1500 RAscal design, also with ASD propulsion. Designed for maximum efficiency in the performance of linehandling, ship-handling and related terminal support activities, the vessel is equipped with a hawser winch and staple forward, with heavy bow fendering for ship-assist work. A towing bitt and tow-hook are fitted aft for line-handling and general towing duties.
New regional office established by Sanmar
Leading Turkish Shipyard, Sanmar Marine, has set up a Middle East sales office in Dubai, UAE, to be headed up by a new Sales Director for the AMEA region, Gary Dockerty. Sanmar and Dockerty have worked together on a number of projects whilst the former was working for other companies long established in the UAE, where he has lived for nearly ten years, most notably with Smit Lamnalco and P&O Maritime – both regular customers for Sanmar tugs.
“I have known the Sanmar team for many years and been privileged to experience the passion and commitment they put into their work first hand, having visited their office and construction yard in Türkiye on numerous occasions, and found the skills prevalent throughout the company to be second-to-none,” he said.
The aim is for the new office to additionally develop into a spares depot.
Sanmar passes inspection with flying colours
Senior representatives of Statoil in Norway paid a visit to Sanmar’s construction hall in Türkiye to audit the current production status of the two LNG propelled tugs and check on the HSE regime in place at the shipyard since their last visit. Statoil officials pay regular follow-up visits to check progress on the vessels they will be chartering from the owners, Buksér og Berging AS, also of Norway.
The Sanmar team made detailed presentations about its Quality System and HSE Management System including SANMAR HSE Statistical Report for two tugboats for the first 5 months of 2013. This report includes the Observation Reports, Near Miss Reports, Incidents, Environmental Incidents etc. The records regarding the constant training of the production team were submitted as well as details of future scheduled training events such as First Aid & Fire Fighting trainings by the third party.
Reports were made to illustrate how the Integrated Quality-HSE Management System in Sanmar covers every procedure of the shipyard production facilities at all stages.
The Statoil team returned home totally satisfied with their visit
