M/T TORSTEN sails into service from Istanbul to North of Germany
The delivery of NavTug ® FlatTop TORSTEN was celebrated with a ceremony in late February.
She completed sea trials succesfully this month in Istanbul and started her maiden voyage.
The tug Torsten, is a powerful handy-sized multipurpose anchor-handling and assistance vessel which has been delivered to join the fleet of the towage company Hans Schramm & Sohn Schleppschifffahrt of Germany. Designed by NavConsult, part of the Schramm Group, the vessel has a large flat deck area capable of enormous versatility in any offshore and coastal construction site for activities such as anchor-handling and cable-laying. Once in Germany, the tug will be used as escort and support vessel for the cable layer ship NOSTAG 10 in its first long-term use.
Measuring 31.50m x 12.00m, the vessel is powered by a pair of Caterpillar 3512B HD diesel engines, each developing 1425kW at 1,600 rev/min turning 2,000mm diameter five-bladed Piening propellers via Reintjes type WAF 763 gearboxes with a reduction ratio of 5.4:1. On trials, Torsten achieved a bollard pull of 43 tonnes and a free-running speed of 10 knots.
To achieve a clear flat deck area, the accommodation, with berths for 6/7, is located below main deck whilst the superstructure is located along the port side. The wood clad deck features a Kraajeveld independent double drum combined anchor-handling and towing winch with a brake holding load of 130 tons and each drum capable of carrying 750m of 46mm diameter wire. There are two hydraulic tugger winches as well. Germanischer Lloyd has been appointed as the Class for this project.
