THE IMO WORLD MARITIME DAY
PARALLEL EVENT and EXHIBITION
4 – 6 November
Sanmar is proud to be one of the sponsors of The World Maritime Day Parallel Event within the framework of World Maritime Day celebrations, which are being held in Istanbul between 4 and 6 November 2016. The event is being hosted by The Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications. The World Maritime Day theme for 2016 “Shipping: indispensable to the world” was chosen to focus on the critical link between shipping and global society and to raise awareness of the relevance of the role of IMO as the global regulatory body for international shipping. The importance of shipping to support and sustain today’s global society gives IMO’s work a significance that reaches far beyond the industry itself.
On Friday’s Opening Ceremony His Excellency Mr. Kitack LIM, Secretary-General, IMO gave the opening speech which was followed by the keynote address by Mr. Jakob STAUSHOLM, Chief Financial, Strategy and Transformation Officer of the Transport and Logistics division and Group CFO of A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S.P.
The opening ceremonies also included His Excellency The Prime Minister of Türkiye Mr. Binali Yıldırım speaking about the importance of shipping. Also, The Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications His Excellency Mr. Ahmet Arslan gave the welcome message.
