UK towage company Targe Towing Limited (established 1991) recently signed a contract with leading tug builder Sanmar Shipyards for a Bogacay Class tug. Managing Director of Targe, Mr. Tom Woolley, commented “We at delighted to be working with Sanmar on this project. Targe operates tugs out of the North East of Scotland Ports, providing dedicated towage to Aberdeen, Dundee and Peterhead. On the Firth of Forth, Targe has recently had their contract extended with BP for the Hound Point Marine terminal to include marine services alongside the existing towage provision which it has held for the past 23 years.
Purchased on very short delivery from stock the “Bogacay XXVI” is currently on passage to its new home in Scotland where it is due to arrive around 3rd June.
Measuring 24.4m in length with a moulded beam of 11.25m and an overall draft 5.10 m, the tug is powered by pair of Caterpillar 3512 C main engines, each developing 1765 kW at 1800 rev/min driving Rolls-Royce type US 205 FP azimuth drives with carbon shafts turning 2400 mm diameter propellers inside high efficiency nozzles with stainless steel inner surfaces. Auxiliary generator sets are also by Caterpillar – a pair of 86 ekW C4.4s.
The port side main engine also powers the pump that feeds the external fire-fighting system with a FFS supplied monitor capacity of 1200m3/h located at the forward end of the bridge deck.
This machinery combination delivers a bollard pull of 60 tonnes and a free-running speed of 13 knots. The main winch, manufactured by DMT, is mounted on the fore deck.
