SANMAR DELIVERS THE SECOND TUGBOAT FOR SVITZER

Turkish tug builder, Sanmar A.Ş, continues to supply the global market leader with tugboats following the delivery of Svitzer Tyne.

As the name of the vessel would suggest, it is headed, courtesy of a Redwise delivery crew, to the Port of Tyne on the north-east English coast. The order follows the summer delivery of a sister ship to Svitzer in Peru and exceptionally quick delivery from date of order was a crucial aspect of the two contract awards.

Both vessels are Bogacay Class vessels measuring 24.4m x 11.25m with a 60 tonne bollard pullderived from a pair of 3512 CHD Caterpillar engines, each developing 1,765kW at 1,800 rev/min. Designed by distinguished Canadian naval architects, Robert Allan Ltd, the relatively new exclusive Bogacay model is based on RAmparts 2400SX series exclusively developed for Sanmar Shipyard.

This new series close cousin of the highly successful Ulupinar Series but with 2m additional beam and forecastle deck to offer an MLC 2006 compliance with exceptionally high level of stability for areas subject to adverse sea conditions.

“Being on the North Sea coast, the port of Tyne is frequently exposed to some of the more severe weather the UK sees. With 60 tonnes bollard pull, Svitzer Tyne has been ordered and built ready to serve the needs of port of Tyne.” says Phil Dulson, managing director North UK for Svitzer Europe.

Svitzer has been providing safety and support at sea since 1833 and currently has 4,000 employees, a fleet of more than 400 vessels and operations all over the world. The latest arrival will join a fleet of three tugs serving the River Tyne.
